Dr. Robert Savage - Board of Advisors

Robert M. Savage, MD, FACC, is a physician at the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute where he serves in the in the Departments of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia & Critical Care and Cardiovascular Medicine. He is Section Head of Perioperative Echocardiography. Dr. Savage is board certified as a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Anesthesiology and the Critical Care Subspeciality Board. He is also certified by the National Board of Echocardiography in Adult Echocardiography and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians. His speciality interest is valvular heart disease, perioperative echocardiography, and cardiovascular critical care.

Dr. Savage graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky, and was awarded the U.S. Naval Health Professions Scholarship while attending Duke University School of Medicine. After receiving his medical degree, he completed his internship at the San Diego Naval Hospital. and served as a research fellow at the University of California - San Diego with Dr. Colin Bloor. Dr. Savage completed his internal medical residency, cardiology fellowship, and residency in the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care at Emory University. Dr. Savage was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation faculty in 1990.

Dr. Savage has served on the Board of Directors of the National Board of Echocardiography, the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA). He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and as an editorial reviewer for such leading publications as Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Circulation, and Anesthesia & Analgesia. Dr. Savage was the founder and of the Joint ASE-SCA Comprehensive Review of Perioperative Echocardiography which he directed for 8 years. He has been invited to lecture at numerous national and international cardiovascular medical conferences and has published over 150 manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts. He is the editor of the Comprehensive Textbook of Perioperative TEE and Self Assessment DVD in Perioperative Echocardiography. He is a co-editor of e-Echocardiography.com , a continuing medical education program which internet accessible throughout the world.

Dr. Savage lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio with his wife and two daughters and is actively involved in the Fellowship Bible Church. His family serves on the advisor board of the Cleveland City Stars and are actively involved with the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy Charter School and the Cleveland Clinic's high school community outreach program where he mentors students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.
